PROSPERO – EXTENDED THEATRE
Prospero Extended Theatre (2020–2025) brought together nine European theatres and ARTE to reinvent how contemporary theatre is created and shared across borders. Born from the belief that art remains a powerful force for dialogue and cohesion in times of crisis, the project fostered a strong European community committed to artistic exchange, digital innovation and the circulation of works.
Over five years, Prospero Extended Theatre supported nine major co-productions, toured across Europe, and developed PROSPERO – THEATRE.TV, the first pan-European streaming platform dedicated to theatre. The project also produced diverse works such as key research on authors’ rights and launched pioneering tools for audience development.
Today, its productions, digital resources and methodologies continue to shape European theatre, leaving a lasting legacy for artists, audiences and cultural institutions.
The Prospero network continues its development through Prospero New European Wave, the european platform dedicated to emergent artists.

This year’s edition of Europe’s sectoral policy dialogue highlights artistic freedom, featuring the global campaign Resistance Now Together and the launch of PROSPERO NEW, a platform dedicated to amplifying the voices of emerging European artists. Bringing together leading artists, policymakers and experts, Prospero NEW will carry forward the legacy of Prospero Extended Theatre into a new phase of cooperation, mobility, and artistic innovation across Europe.
